Responding to Change

Is your business changing? Has the economy or competition changed the way you do business? If so, were you ready for the change? Many people are caught off guard when changes dictate that they alter the way they do business. It isn't unusual to be stressed or even unsure about changes but what a business can't do is panic.

A steady, consistent approach to change is not only required but it offers stability and piece of mind to owners, vendors and customers. This is a part of doing business in today's world. If change completely throws you for a loop and causes you to panic and make knee jerk reactions, then maybe running a business isn't for you.

The way we react to change offers customers and potential customers a view into how things will be handled when the marketplace place throws us a curve. Will they be impressed by our reaction or will they be concerned?

Almost all change is laden with opportunity; it is the way we react that determines whether or not we capitalize on that opportunity. Changes often create circumstances that offer us a chance to grow our business in ways we never would have thought of had the change not occurred.

The next time you are faced with a change that seems to be a real problem, take a moment, look for the upside and do your best to capitalize on the opportunity presented to you.

Spinal Implants May Help Paralyzed Patients

Grégoire Courtine a professor of neuroprosthetics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) has been working with spinal implants in mice and monkeys to improve mobility in paralyzed animals. He recently began a study on humans. The implants are placed on the lower spine by a surgeon and send signals to the leg muscles that cause the muscles to contract stimulating movement.

The animals were trained to move after the implants and after several months undamaged nerve fibers around the spinal injury were able to re-grow and reorganize to bring signals from the brain to the legs.

Currently the human trial does not include a brain implant.
