What's New ?
   Home Court Advantage

In sports it is a decided benefit to have the home court advantage. Familiar surroundings, supportive fans and that feeling of defending what is yours all have an impact on the advantage playing at home provides. Playing on their home court makes the home team feel more comfortable.

I once read an article that said that Larry Bird, former NBA Champion and Hall of Famer, would often dribble the floor and shoot for hours before games. During this time Bird would find dead spots in the floor and commit them to memory so he could use the knowledge to his advantage during the game. This preparation and dedication earned him three NBA MVP awards and recognized as one of the top 50 NBA players of all time.

The old adage, “The Customer is Always Right”, places the ball squarely in the hands of the consumer. The old saying simply means that we, as business owners, should bend over backwards to meet the needs and even demands of a consumer. Does that place the business owner at a disadvantage?

There are so many aspects involved in running a business that it is easy to fall short in one area or another. A business owner can feel off his game if a customer asks a question that they have not been asked before or if they sell a new product without being fully educated on its features. A new owner may find that customer service is far more daunting than they expected. No matter the situation, most incidents stem from being unprepared.

We become prepared by knowing everything we can about each product and service we offer as well as learning about our customers needs. No one can know everything, but as consumers we all appreciate someone who goes the extra mile. As business owners we can create our own home court advantage. It doesn’t matter where we work as long as we exhibit the dedication and preparedness it takes to be on top of our game.
