Small businesses
should celebrate their
outstanding reputation.
According to a recent
Pew Research Center study,
an impressive 86% of those
surveyed held favorable
views of small businesses.
This places small businesses
even above churches and the
military in public esteem.
In contrast, large
corporations, banks, and
financial institutions often
do not enjoy such positive
perceptions.
For the purposes of
the survey, small businesses
refer to firms with 500
employees or fewer. These
businesses account for 99.9
percent of US companies. 79%
percent of these firms have
10 employees or fewer.
Why do people like
small businesses? For many,
it is the relationships
built between the business
owner and customer. We all
like being called by our
name. Local small business
owners get to know their
customers and their
families. Passion and
commitment are two more
reasons people like small
businesses. Small business
owners are passionate about
customer satisfaction,
whereas large corporations
tend to focus more on
profits.
Local businesses
support the economy by
keeping money in the
community. Profits and
salaries are spent locally,
enhancing growth in the
area. Small businesses are
more involved in the
community and invest both
time and money.
Small businesses are
considered more authentic.
The owners genuinely like
what they do and are zealous
about succeeding. Small
businesses are often started
to solve a problem or fill a
need. People understand the
risks taken by small
business owners and are
drawn to their commitment to
succeed.
So take a bow, pat
yourself on the back, and
dig in, because small
business owners aren’t
satisfied with a little
praise.
