Why a Well-Written Email Matters |
Email is everywhere in our
professional lives. Whether
you're sending sales copy to a
client, following up with an
associate, or applying for a new
job, your emails are often the
first impression you make. And
as Will Rogers once said, "You
never get a second chance to
make a first impression."
Your words
create lasting impressions.
You want your emails to
stand out for all the right
reasons. Every email you send is
an advertisement for your
personal brand. When you can't
be there in person and rely on a
smile or a handshake, your words
represent you. A clear,
well-structured email shows
you're professional, thoughtful,
and respect the reader's time.
On the flip side, a sloppy,
typo-riddled message can
inadvertently shout "I rushed
through this!" - and that's not
the message anyone wants to
send.
It's just a
little typo!
Is
it? A missing word or misplaced
comma can significantly alter
the meaning of your email.
Imagine missing the word "not"
in the following sentence: I
am not going to be at the
seminar this weekend.
Spell-check won't catch this.
It's a simple mistake, but the
ramifications can be huge. Email
errors can damage your
credibility, create confusion,
waste time, and lose
opportunities.
Proofreading is like a super
power!
Take a
few moments to proofread your
email. Check names, dates, and
numbers. Many businesses utilize
email templates, and they are
often addressed to "Mr. John
Smith" or another common name.
If you forget to change the
name, it is easy to see how the
recipient could be offended.
Proofreading allows you to catch
typos and fix confusing
sentences before they confuse
someone else. Pay attention to
the tone of the email and make
certain it is appropriate for
the intended audience.
Read the email out loud.
Reading your email out loud
is a pro tip that helps you
avoid potential embarrassment.
If you stumble over a sentence,
your recipient probably will
too. The few minutes it takes to
read your email out loud can be
a game changer.
Take a break.
Many people find that if they
take a short two to three minute
break then return and reread an
email they tend to catch
mistakes they missed the first
time around.
A
well-crafted, proofread email
builds trust, boosts your
credibility, and strengthens
relationships. So before you hit
"send," take a moment to review.
The extra effort could be the
difference between closing a
deal and losing one. |

Just For Grins
 |
- Sad news! I broke up
with my girlfriend Loraine. She found out I was
seeing another girl, Claire Lee. Good news though!
I can see Claire Lee now, Loraine is gone!
- I call it SPOOKY
WATER. It's like NORMAL WATER, but it has BOOS in
it.
- I'm never sure if I
actually have free time or if I'm just forgetting
things.
- Don't bother walking
a mile in my shoes, THAT WOULD BE boring. SPEND 30
SECONDS in my head, now that will FREAK YOU OUT!
- They say don't try
this at home, so I'm coming over to your house to
try it.
- I hate when I lose
things at work, like my favorite pen or my will to
live.
- Be careful when you
follow the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.
- The difference
between me and Superman is... He has super vision.
I require supervision.
- The fact that Head and
Shoulders has not made a body wash called Knees and
Toes, really bothers me.
- When I get a headache,
I take two aspirin and keep away from children,
just like the bottle says.

Notepad++
Notepad++ is a
free Notepad replacement that supports source code
editing and several programming languages. Tabs
and color-coded, nested text are among its most
popular features.
Imagine Notepad on
steroids. It offers WYSIWYG printing and macro
support. Add
32-bit or
64-bit
plug-ins to Notepad++
for added functionality. Programmers and other
professionals enjoy the User Language Define
System, which can be used to define programming
and other languages with syntax highlighting and
more. However, popular language definitions may
have already been defined by someone else, saving
you the effort.
Users can
customize toolbar icons by overriding the default
icons. Notepad++ can be used alongside the
traditional Notepad application or as a
replacement.
