Newsworthy Press Releases
News releases must gain attention from news outlets before they will be published. Headlines and verifiable information are the first criteria for a valid news release. Once the headline passes an examination by an editor, the content follows. Your content is more likely to be reviewed if your headline stands out.

Be objective and determine if your story is newsworthy. What is newsworthy about your release? Will it impact people locally? The 5W1H method can help determine if Your release is newsworthy. Find out more about the 5W1H method in this month's blog post. If you are announcing a new product line, it may be newsworthy to you, but outsiders may not care. If your new product line fills a need in the community, it suddenly becomes news.

Proper punctuation, grammar, and tone are crucial. Editors do not want to rewrite a news story. The Elements of Style Guide and tools like Grammarly can be helpful. Avoid being overly descriptive or getting bogged down in details. Short, concise sentences are best.

Your first paragraph should detail the most critical information. The second paragraph outlines information everyone should know. This downward progression of information importance is known as an Inverted Pyramid. The last section of your news release should detail the least important information.

Fact-check everything and quote only reliable sources. While conflict is often newsworthy, companies may want to avoid associating themselves with social and political conflicts. The risk of alienating potential customers may be too high.

These techniques and answering the 5W1H method questions will give you a head start on your next press release.

HAPPY 4th of JULY

Smile  Just For Grins  Smile
  • People will stop asking you questions if you answer back in interpretive dance.
  • We're all brave in our own way. For example I am not afraid of raw cookie dough.
  • I saw a store that has a sign that says "We treat you like family!" What did I ever do to them!
  • I had a really bad day. First my ex got ran over by a bus. Then I got fired from my job as a bus driver.
  • I do crunches twice a day now. Captain in the morning, Nestle in the afternoon.
  • My greatest accomplishment today has been not saying what I am thinking out loud.
  • My Mom did not raise no fool, and if she did it was my Brother.
  • Anyone else starting to get a tan from the light in the fridge.
  • If you can't think of a word say, " I forget the English word for it." That way people will think your bilingual instead of an idiot.
  • I have a theory. My single socks and Tupperware lids snitched on someone and are now in witness protection.
  • Day 2 without sports. Found a lady sitting on my couch. Apparently she is my wife. She seems nice.
