| PPP Design has been working on a new
Portal and Home Page. What is the purpose of a portal? First,
a portal offers a common entry point to the internet. It also
offers an opportunity to be part of a community that has
common interests. The biggest benefit of a Portal site is the
ability to access information and participate in discussions
and or activities related to a specific interest. In this
case, the specific interest is promoting your website.
A portal also offers news, weather, links, humor, and
customized content created, or added by users. For example:
John has a website with PPP Design and takes advantage of the
Portal (It's free by the way). He has a treadmill he purchased
several years ago and really hasn't used it very often. He
decides to place a (free) ad in the classified section of the
portal. Other users can view the ad, contact John by e-mail
and complete the transaction. John would also like to discuss
an idea he has regarding the promotion of his website. He logs
in to the Portal forum, describes his idea and asks for
feedback. Other users respond and he finds that his idea has
been tried before and is very effective. John follows through
with his idea.
Typically a member of a Portal site sets the home page of
the portal as their home page. When you access the internet
the common home page is displayed offering the same types of
information commonly found on home pages. You decide if you
would like to log in and participate in user specific events
or if you would rather continue to some other destination on
the internet.
The Portal will have NO pop-up ads and will offer the
ability to submit your favorite links so everyone can enjoy
them. A user forum allowing for different topics of discussion
will be available. Interested users could even moderate forum
discussions that they find interesting. A classified ad
section will be included and an event section that would
provide a place to promote special user events (a sale at your
store etc.) We want this to be a place that offers value to
the users. The Portal will be coming soon and has yet to be
named. |

Make Your Site Memorable With Wallpaper
If you want to spruce up the inside of your
house what do you do? A little paint, a little wallpaper,
maybe new carpet or flooring. Well, how do you spruce up your
computer desktop? Paint probably wouldn't be a popular option
although their are times that all of us would enjoy throwing a
bucket of paint at our computers.
Desktop wallpaper is the best way to
change the appearance of our computer. It is also a great way
to promote your web site. Look at your screen, what type of
background is displayed right now? Please, Please tell me it
doesn't say Microsoft (Windows). If it does, why does it? I
don't mean why haven't you gotten rid of the canned wallpaper,
I mean why would Microsoft waste their time making wallpaper
with their name on it. Simple, they know it is a great way to
promote their products. Wallpaper is a great way to promote
you and your business. Nike, Reebock, the Chicago Bears and
many other well known entities have wallpaper on their website
that anyone can download. I know, because I had Walter Payton
diving in to the end zone on my desktop for over a year.
Not only is custom wallpaper effective, it
is extremely affordable. Custom wallpaper can be created for
around fifty dollars and can be placed on your website for
download. The same wallpaper can be downloaded millions of
times, placed on the desktops of millions of computers and it
still only costs around fifty dollars. And every time someone
turns on their computer your website and business is
advertised. The wallpaper doesn't even have to have anything
to do with your business, a beautiful picture or scene that
you have the right to place your name on can be turned in to
wallpaper to promote your site.
Some wallpaper needs to be made in different
sizes (resolutions) so they view properly on different display
settings, others can be stretched without distorting the view.

Run Any Application or Document from the
Run Command |
You can run any application or document from
the Start Menu - Run command in Windows. If you have Outlook
Express try this. Click Start, and choose Run from the pop-up
menu. Enter C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe
into the dialog box, and click O.K. If Outlook Express is in
the default installation path it will open just like you
clicked on it's short cut. You can also open documents this
way and they open with their default application. If you have
a document named info.doc (.doc is the extension for Microsoft
Word documents) in your My Documents folder and you type:
C:\MyDocuments\info.doc
in to the Run dialog box, info.doc will open in
Microsoft word.
You can also type a period into the Run dialog box and a
window containing all of your Desktop items will open in front
of all other windows. Try this the next time you have several
open windows and need to access something from your Desktop.
It is much easier than shrinking and reopening all of the
windows. |

Some good rules to follow.
1. It's always darkest before dawn! So if you're going
to steal your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time
to do it.
2. The journey of thousand miles begins with a broken
fan belt and a leaky tire.
3. Always remember you are unique. Just like
everyone else.
4. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're
a mile away and you have their shoes.
5. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
6. There are two theories to arguing with women.
Neither one works.
7. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person
again, it was probably worth it.
8. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him
how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
9. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
10. If you think nobody cares if you are alive, try missing a
couple of car payments.
