Are you
Vunerable?

What's New

Every day it seems there is an update to an existing software program, browser or operating system. The problem is, how does an ordinary computer user keep track of all the updates and changes? An even bigger problem is whether or not the update is better than what you started with? "If it isn't broke, don't fix it " seems to work well for most things, but if your talking about a system or program vulnerability it may be very important to apply an update. System vulnerability updates or "patches" can save you hours of work and protect you from malicious online attacks.

One of the easiest ways to keep your system as safe as possible is a free service offered by CNET. CNET's catch up services scans your PC for software applications, system files, and drivers, and provides you with a customized list of available updates.

Security Fixes identifies known vulnerabilities in your software applications and operating system and provides you with all the information required to patch the security holes.

You can go directly to CNET's catch up page  with this link and read more about there free service. Take your time and read about each suggested update before applying a patch or upgrade. Be certain an update or patch is for your operating system or software program before applying. To check the version number of specific software you can generally click "help" and then "about" to reveal the software version you are using.

Update!

LINKLINKLINK

$ Marketing Your Site $

One of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to market your web site is through the use of link exchanges. There are many sites online that offer link exchanges. Link Leads is an example of a "links exchange" program. Many links exchange sites are free and offer multiple services. The drawback to a large online link service may be the inability to link to other local business's. It may do no good (depending on your business) to have a link with a motorcycle shop in Japan. The motorcycle shop's customers may not be your best source of business.

It may be productive to link to other local or area business web sites. In exchange for them adding a link to your web site, you add a link to theirs. This can be especially productive for related but non-competing business's. A men's clothing store and a woman's clothing store for example.

If you would like to get started, check out Denison Links and check out some of the other web sites in the area. You may find one that can't wait to link to you.

Tips & Tricks

Have you ever heard of "Tweak UI"? If not you may want to check it out. I go crazy if I use a computer without it. Tweak UI is a small utility created by the programmers at Microsoft. It is not a Microsoft supported utility, but it offers functionality that the programmers thought was left out of the Windows operating system (OS). Tweak UI stands for Tweak User Interface. Here is a screen shot of a few of the functions that Tweak UI deals with.

You can change the look of your desktop icons, increase menu speed, clear files such as recent documents and history at start up or log off, you can also add or remove programs from your add or remove utility in your control panel. These are just a few of the options Tweak UI offers. It is very simple to use and easy to install.

You can download Tweak UI with this link.

Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, and Windows 95 , XP

Download TweakUI (version 1.33).

Choose the appropriate version for your system, (they are all the same except for the XP OS) and follow the easy instructions for download and installation. After installing go to your start menu, then settings, click control panel and look for the Tweak UI icon. (XP users may find Tweak UI on their normal menu.)

You are ready to start tweaking!
