Tag, Your It!
Internet Search Engines spider and index billions of web pages
to make it easier for us to search for and find the
information we need. As the internet grows it becomes
increasingly difficult to maintain and develop these indexes.
Many website developers are tagging their content with the
belief that this will help search engines index their site(s).
Tagging is a form of book marking that allows visitors or Blog
readers to jump to other content that relates to what they are
already reading. Unlike social book marking where visitors
create their own links to content, tagging allows the creator
of specific content to determine what that content relates to.
Tagging can be links directly within specific content or a
separate set of links (often used by blogs) included on the
same page as the content directing visitors to other relevant
information related to the given subject.
No one knows for sure how much of an impact tagging has on
search engine placement but it does it make it easier for
visitors to find relevant content. With this in mind, it only
makes sense to use tagging as new content is added. So, it's
your turn, Tag....Your It! |
