A New Approach You
run a weekly full color ad in your home town newspaper and it
has done well for you but it seems to have lost some of its
appeal. The ads around yours are also full color. Instead of
creating a new marketing campaign, maybe a change to black and
white might help.
Perhaps a comical radio ad instead of the
same old ad you have ran for six months.
Maybe an animated (don't go overboard)
internet ad instead of the banner ad you have used in the
past. Advertise in school programs or booster
club flyers.
How about an insert instead of the regular
newspaper ad. Sometimes a new approach with
your quality ad content can make all the difference in the
world. A new approach may grab someone's attention that never
noticed your ad before or renew interest from people that have
seen your ad many times. Don't forget
existing customers, a billing or invoice insert is a great way
to announce new product offerings or to remind customers of
other product lines or services that you offer.
"Don't throw the baby out with the bath water", (whoever
thought of that saying should be watched carefully) good ad
content can be used, re-used and recycled.
A New Approach may just attract new
customers. |
Have You Visited Windows Update Recently?
This past week I had the opportunity to test our back up
system. This is something I could have lived without testing.
I went to the Windows Update Site and applied the most recent
updates and hot fixes and was then instructed to reboot. I
clicked on "OK" so my computer could reboot. When my system
began to display the desktop on my monitor the screen went
black and my computer began to reboot again, and again, and
again. As slow as I am, I realized this wasn't right and
determined the updates had "messed up" my computer. I am
pretty sure that "messed up" was the term I used, but I won't
swear to it.
We use Acronis True Image Software to back up our systems.
Each month we complete a full backup and then set a task for
the software to incrementally backup our systems each day.
This system sounded great and we felt this way we would never
be more than a day behind if we suffered a crash. We had never
had to do a complete back up or image restore (a complete
removal of a drive or partition replaced by a backup). We
tried everything we could think of and finally decided that
our only option was a complete restore of my Operating System
Partition.
After muttering something nice about the Windows Updates I
booted in to safe mode and began the restore process. About 45
minutes later my computer worked, acted and looked exactly
like it did when the incremental back up was completed the
evening before. After a few hours of catching up what I had
done earlier in the day I was back on track.
After this incident I can safely say that I strongly recommend
a backup system that includes drive imaging along with
incremental daily backups. Some people may even want
incremental backups that take place a few times a day. Save a
backup to a CD or DVD along with backups to an alternate drive
if possible. In this case I could boot in to safe mode but at
worst I could have reinstalled Windows and the Acronis True
Inage Software and been back up within a few hours.
In this case I allowed Windows Update to install several
updates and hot fixes at once. In the future I will take the
time to install each one on it's own so I can determine if one
update causes a problem.
