Customer Retention (Part 1 of 4)

We can endlessly discuss the psychology behind customer retention and it's merits, but the truth of the matter is that taking specific steps to retain valued customers is what is important.

Why is customer retention so important? Customer retention provides business opportunities that simply aren't available with new prospects.

Take for example a customer that has done business with you for years. He or She trusts you, if not, the customer would have stopped doing business with you. If you were to propose a large purchase, one larger than you ever proposed before, the long time customer would give the purchase automatic consideration. A new prospect would in all likely hood shy away from such a large purchase with someone they had not built a relationship.

The second consideration is the cost of developing new prospects. Smaller sales are a given but the increased cost of advertising, and the time it takes to develop a trusting relationship add up to create a less than cost effective sales process.

Many successful business's generate 70-90% of their revenue from repeat customers. Maybe that is why they are successful!

Do You Use Coupons?

We are currently in the process of rolling out a new Internet application. The application, named Crawford County Coupons, is the result of several months work. We wanted to level the playing field after seeing several coupon sites that offer only National Brand Coupons. Crawford County coupons was built for area businesses and consumers.

The site will officially go live July 15, 2005. In the mean time we are signing up businesses and preparing for marketing of the site.

An area business can register, then post up to five coupons that may be freely printed by visitors to the site. The business has complete control of their coupons and may update or change the coupons at any time.

Crawford County Coupons provides area business with an opportunity to promote themselves and each other at the same time. Watch for posters, and flyers announcing  local business participation.

We have partnered with the Chamber & Development Council of Crawford County (CDC), providing CDC members with a discounted registration rate.

 Back-up...Back-up...Back-up
The Adventures of a Computer Cowboy!

I recently decided to re-partition one of my hard drives. My C: drive had become sluggish and I read somewhere that if more than 50% of a partition was used it could slow the system response down.

I used a popular software tool to accomplish the job and while I was shrinking one partition and expanding another, an error occurred. So, I tried again, another error. The help file suggested that I power down and back up to see if this could correct the problem. Needless to say it didn't, I couldn't even get my computer to boot up.

Of course, this was at 11:00 pm, the time when most intelligent people are preparing for bed. Being a glutton for punishment and very stubborn, I refused to go to bed until the problem was fixed. This was a big mistake. In about the same way that at least three chapters of a good western novel start, " As the sun peaked over the horizon," here I was without my horse or six shooter....oops. I mean there I sat trying the same thing over and over again. I eventually convinced myself to get some sleep, this had to be a bad dream anyway.

When I woke up later that same day, I remembered all of the rescue disks and back-ups I had made. After tracking them down I was able to use a rescue disk to reboot, finish the partition job I started and return my system to working order. I didn't need my back-ups this time, but several times through out the night I was very grateful that I had them. I knew I could use those back-ups to restore my system if necessary.

When the job was done I climbed upon my trusty steed and road off in to the sunset...no...no... I mean I sighed, shook my head, and thought about the yard I still had to mow.
