 Link Transfer &  Thiefware

When some people view your website it could be covered with blue and gold links. The problem is the links aren't supposed to be there. The links aren't actually on your website, they are being generated in the viewers browser.

This is done when the viewer has Toptext installed on their computer. Toptext is a program created by Ezula , it creates link ads on all webpages that you view.

Let's use an automobile website for example: The word automobile is displayed on the site in text and someone with this software installed surfs to the site to view it. The word automobile is highlighted as a link, when the user clicks the link a small popup "decision box" is displayed offering an option to follow a link to a different automobile manufacturer. If they choose the link the user is whisked away from the original site to the linked manufacturers site and the user never knows that this was not a link the original site wished to have displayed.

Other programs like Flyswat and Gator seem to have stopped using link transfer in their software although their place in the spy ware category is still in question.

The practice of link transferring is no different than a competing local business spray painting their logo and address on the sidewalk in front of your store. They don't own the sidewalk and have no business advertising there.

Ezula detection and removal

Try the link above if you think you may have a problem with link transferring in your browser.

There are other programs and methods of creating these mysterious links but Ezula seems to be the most prevalent. Probably because it is packaged with Kazaa among other programs. Kazaa is one of the largest file transfer programs available with over 14 million downloads. You have one chance to opt out of the Ezula install while you install Kazaa so be ready.

This seems to be a problem exclusive to Internet Explorer. But since 90% or more of all browsers used are Internet Explorer it is hard to tell if this is a problem with the browser or if the creators of this problem focused on this browser because of it's popularity.

Lead Processing System

I recently Emailed a company from a link on their website, I didn't receive a response for 5 days. By the time they responded I had already found solutions to the majority of the problems that I had Emailed them about. I still had one problem that wasn't solved, so I replied to their Email and after several days I gave up on them and found another solution. Do you think I will ever buy from this company? I was a definite potential sale for this company and they took that for granted.

This brings us to the question. How do you handle leads generated by your website?

Sometimes a lead is a very simple question about your product or service that doesn't appear to be a potential sale. Other times it is clear, such as, "How much would this cost"? It doesn't matter how a person asks, because every question has the potential to generate a sale. So, how do we handle these leads?

First, I recommend an auto responder if it seems appropriate for your business. An auto responder sends a return Email to everyone that emails you. It let's the person know that their Email was received and how and when you will contact them, it also thanks them for their interest. If you host your site with PPP Design you already have the ability to set up an auto responder with your web based dot com Email account. If you need help setting this up, just let us know.

Next, we have to respond in a timely fashion. Determine in advance how you will respond. Will you respond by phone, Email, or maybe even snail mail? If all they provide is their Email address the question is answered for you.

Many experts suggest responding to the Email immediately and following up with a packet, brochure or other sales material sent using regular mail. This means you have to acquire their physical address.

A pre-prepared Microsoft word document or P.D.F. file (Portable document format by Adobe) with your sales material or information could be attached to every lead response E-mail.

None of us want to miss out on a potential sale so it is important to have a lead processing system in place. This gives our site credibility and reflects on the rest of our business.

Where to find Marketing FAQ

PPP Design has a new website! Our new website is lighter, brighter and has more content than ever before. We have included a new marketing FAQ database and a database driven portfolio. You can easily search through the  FAQ based on specific categories instead of re-reading all of our newsletters.

We have added a simple online quote form and more virus and security news. And our favorite, a weekly message from Pam and a site of the week highlighted on our home page.

Don't be surprised if you get a call from Pam, she will be contacting everyone through out this next year to get together and gather information so we can highlight your site. If there is a special reason you would like your site highlighted during a specific week please let us know.

Take advantage of the Marketing FAQ, we will be adding to them regularly. Our link page has links to all of your sites and each site is listed in our portfolio. New desktop wallpaper, and a  personal organizer are available on the download samples page. Check out the new downloads and take whatever you want.

Thanks to all of you we keep growing and trying to add new services for our clients.

Stop by and see the new site!

Things to do in an elevator.

1 When there''s only one other person in the elevator, tap them on the shoulder and then pretend it wasn''t you.

2 Push the buttons and pretend they give you a shock. Smile, and go back for more.

3 Ask if you can push the buttons for other people, but push the wrong ones.

4
Call the Psychic Hotline from your cell phone and ask if they know what floor you''re on.

5 Hold the doors open and say you''re waiting for your friend. After awhile, let the doors close and say, "Hi Greg. How''s your day been?"

6
Drop a pen and wait until someone reaches to help pick it up, then scream, "That''s mine!"

7 Bring a camera and take pictures of everyone in the elevator.

8 Move your desk in to the elevator and whenever someone gets on, ask if they have an appointment.

9 Lay down a Twister mat and ask people if they''d like to play.

10 Leave a box in the corner, and when someone gets on ask them if they hear something ticking.

11 Pretend you are a flight attendant and review emergency procedures and exits with the passengers.

12 Ask, "Did you feel that?"

13 Stand really close to someone, sniffing them occasionally.

14 When the doors close, announce to the others, "It''s okay. Don''t panic, they open up again."

15 Swat at flies that don''t exist.

16 Call out, "Group hug!" then enforce it.

17 Grimace painfully while smacking your forehead and muttering "Shut up, all of you, just shut up!"

18 Crack open your briefcase or purse, and while peering inside, ask, "Got enough air in there?"
