Stay the Course
Many small businesses are affected by the economic slow down.
The difference in how a business fares is often determined by
their reaction to the economy.
Some businesses start slashing their budget and eliminate
everything from staff to advertising. Others cut back where
they can and maintain crucial components necessary to respond
when the economy recovers. Which businesses are successful
during an economic down turn? Any one who has been in business
for many years will tell you it is the business that stays the
course, buttons down the hatches so to speak and remains ready
to respond when the storm is over that experiences long term
success.
Of course it is prudent to take a look at all aspects of your
business during a slow down but slashing staff and advertising
are two things to avoid if possible. Staff typically handles
support issues and advertising brings in new business so these
two areas are critical components that should not be cut
lightly.
Modifying advertising methods to make them more cost effective
and reducing non essential personnel may be necessary at times
but customer service and advertising are the wind the fills
the sails so be cautious before making reductions. |
