Marketing Your Site

What's New ?

A New Sales Representative

Think of your website as a sales representative. This poor fellow has to work 24 hours a day - 7 days a week! What is your sales representative doing right now? Is he/she guiding people to your store or office. Is he/she answering questions for prospective customers. Is he/she informing visitors of sales, events or opportunities? After reviewing many of your sites I would have to say the answer to these questions for the vast majority of you is yes. That's great, that is exactly what you would want a sales representative to do.

But how many of your "sales representatives" are telling visitors about old products, old sales or worse, old lower prices. If a sales representative was doing any of these things you would immediately tell him/her to update their sales pitch. You would never allow a sales person to knowingly state outdated facts. But many websites do! Why? It is usually a matter of oversight. The old data was overlooked or forgotten

Have any of you forgotten to introduce your "sales representative" to prospective customers? Does he/she stand in a corner without anyone knowing that he or she is a tremendous resource for business? People visit and he/she stands idly by without an introduction. We can introduce our sales representatives by promoting and advertising our websites. Then and only then can our "sales representative" go to work for us.

Our 24 hour a day - 7 days a week "sales representatives" are ready to go to work and help us promote our individual brands. Would you hire a sales representative and never put them to work?

 Yahoo Personal Finance

Yahoo has added a Personal Finance section to the already popular Finance section. The Personal Finance section has information about Banking and Budgeting including news stories, expert advice, How-to-Guides, Tools and Videos. That's not all though, there are sections relating to Career & Work, College & Education, Family & Home, Insurance, Loans, Real Estate, Retirement and Taxes. Each section offers it's own tools and resources.

With a background in insurance and finance I was impressed with the number and quality of the tools offered at Yahoo Personal Finance. This is a full fledged resource with something for almost every age, income or net worth. You will find resume advice under the Career & Work category, Alternative minimum tax information in the Tax category, teaching your children the value of money in the Family & Home section as well as tons of insurance and loan information under their respective categories.

What impressed me the most however, is the number of quality calculators available on Yahoo Personal Finance. There are well over 50 calculators available including mortgage and loan amortization, insurance calculators, budget calculators, tax and IRA comparison calculators. The list goes on and on. I tried several of the calculators and compared the results to industry calculators I picked up over the years and there was no difference, the results were concise and accurate.

Stop by and bookmark the Yahoo Personal Finance section, you never know when you might need these tools.

Quick Access to Often Used Folders

This tip will help you access those often used folders quickly and easily.

  • "If you have specific folders you access regularly, you'll want a quick way to access them without having to use Windows Explorer to drill down through the file structure each time.
  • Locate the folder (using Explorer) once, then grab the folder icon that appears at the left edge of the title bar of the window. Drop the folder icon on your desktop to create a shortcut, then right-click the shortcut to rename it, if you want to."
  • "With that done, the next time you want to open that folder quickly, just double-click the icon on your desktop."
  • You can also add the shortcut to your start menu or quick launch area.
This should allow for quick access to any often used folder.

Another tool that accomplishes this is a small free program called Fast Folders. Check it out here.
