Meaningful Dialog
There is an old saying in sales, "The very best salesman are
in jail, they are called con-men." I was given this message by
a venerable salesman (salesperson) that had over 35 years
experience in his field. Based on his sales totals he was the
number one salesman year after year for the company which we
both represented at the time.
To understand his perspective you need to know a little about
this salesman. He didn't live in a big city, as a matter of
fact he resided in a community of less than 2000. His
territory did not include one community with over 20,000
residents, yet year after year for over two decades he sold
more than any one else in the country.
I met him at a convention as he neared retirement (his idea of
retirement, working part time and still maintaining sales that
exceeded 75% of his associates). Of course, I wanted to know
his secret. He told me instead of his biggest fear. His
biggest fear at this point in his career was that he not lead
one of his clients astray. He had built such a reputation that
many of his customers did whatever he suggested. He told me
that while this sounded good, it also added a huge amount of
pressure on him to do what was right for each customer. He
stated that over the years he had worked very hard to always
be honest with each customer and initiate a meaningful dialog
regarding the solutions he offered for their problems.
He maintained that even the smallest miss-statement could have
ruined all that he had worked for over the years. That is why
he reminded me, and the other young salespeople that had
gathered around him that good salespeople are not slick or
clever, they never misdirect anyone, they are simply honest.
Now that was meaningful dialog. |
Smart Mail
The transition is complete. All of our websites have been
transitioned to a much more powerful mail server. Smart Mail
offers more intuitive spam filtering, more powerful scheduling
and contact management features and more reliable hardware..
During the transition all mail rules, forwarding and filtering
were supposed to be transferred to the new mail server. For
the most part this occurred, but their were a few glitches. A
couple of spam filters were knocked out and have been reset,
and we had one site where the mail forwarding did not make the
move. If you experienced problems let us know so we can make
adjustments and you can start seeing the benefits the new mail
server offers.
A few tips.
Smart mail uses an intuitive spam filter which is
automatically implemented. Additional rules and filters are
available but a base filter is automatically applied. Any
email marked as spam will be forwarded to a junk mail folder
and eventually it will be automatically deleted. As with any
technology their is a learning curve and this technology is no
different. It is possible for a legitimate email which fits a
spam profile to fall in to the junk email folder. It may be
useful to check the junk mail folder about once a week for
awhile anyway. If you find a legitimate email in the junk
folder, drag it to the inbox and smart mail automatically
remembers not to make that mistake again. The legitimate
emails miss-marked as spam have been few and far between but
it can happen.
Log in to your online mail account and see all of the new
features that have been added. And check that junk mail folder
while you are there so you don't miss a legitimate email.
In our next newsletter we will discuss several ways of
reducing and managing spam. |
