What's New ?

 Innovation and Desire

Facing a struggling economy affects all of us in one way or another but a stagnant economy is often the spark that lights the fuse of innovation. Many businesses find themselves looking for ways to improve the bottom line and end up creating new income streams or even new businesses along the way.

The desire to improve the financial situation of any business starts with a desire to assure that the business can provide for the financial needs of the owner or owners. Many innovations stem from small business owners attempts to improve their standard of living. Large, corporate research and development departments are typically more focused on the long term. The desire to improve ones financial situation is often what spurs innovative ideas or cost saving techniques.

Although an economic down turn does cause hardship for many it is often what develops the longer term growth of an economy. The need for more income or a steady income stream often delivers opportunities to expand or streamline operations which in turn create the growth that fuels an economic recovery.

Twas the Day After Christmas (Another Remake)

'Twas the Day After Christmas and the economy was slow
I asked Chuck our sales manager the question, but he didn't know
We decided to sit down and decipher the reason
Why we hadn't sold as much as we knew we should this season

I knew it wasn't our staff, they are as good as they come
Not always geniuses but they certainly aren't dumb
Our products are top notch, the best we could sell
Chuck The sales manager grew angry and started to yell.

We looked at everything, even the company car
But why had our competition surpassed us by so far.
What had they done that was oh so much better
Then we took a look at their most recent sales letter.

Chuck said It was so obvious and plain for us to see
Why didn't we do this he screamed as he fell to his knees
And when he stood, his body twitched and it shook
Then he slowly put their sales letter next to our book

What happened next was a holiday miracle of sorts
The desk seemed electrified with dancing year end reports
As this mystical event took place the answer became clear
The sound of the rustling papers drew all the employees near

Chuck spoke with passion and waved his arms above his head
If this happens again next year we all will be dead
They used twitter and My Space and Face book to attract youth
And Great customer service to attract those long in the tooth

They worked hard everyday, sometimes way in to the night
Everything was current, on every page of their website
They responded promptly to every single request
Our competition earned the right to the title of best

Chuck kept on ranting for the rest of the day
He ran to each cubicle so they could hear what he had to say
He finally ran out the door with a grimace and a wince
Not a one of us has seen Chuck the sales manager since.

Now this story is sad, as you can plainly see
If we had learned these lessons this year, it didn't have to be
Next year we will be organized, not all running amuck
But first we all have to go out and find poor crazy old Chuck.
Happy New Year!!

Odd but Interesting New Years Resolutions

1. I will not sit in my living room all day in my pajamas. Instead, I will move my computer into the bedroom.
2. I will not run to the window and press my face against the glass each time it snows.....this really freaks out my neighbor.
3. I will stop bothering people about watching the video of the birth of my son....especially complete strangers.
4. I vow to stop screaming at my dog to come in every night....especially since I don't have one.
5. Assure my lawyer that I will never again show up drunk at a custody hearing.
6. I will give up free style house climbing...this really freaks out my neighbor as well.
7. I will spend less than one hour a day on the Internet. This will be hard to do since I'm not a clock watcher.
8. I will stop asking the mailman "How's the Old Bag?"
9. I resolve to spend more time with neglected children ..... my own.
10. I will stop re-enacting "Fiddler on the Roof" ......again....the neighbor thing.
