The Game is Changing
Like everything else in this world, the search engine indexing
rules are changing. The way that your website is ranked may or
may not be affected. One of the changes recently noted at an
S.E.O. (Search Engine Optimization) Conference deals with
links and the effect they have on search engine placement.
Reciprocal links, while still valuable, have lost some of
their luster.
Reciprocal links are links that are
typically exchanged between two non-competing websites. In
essence, my site has a link that points to yours and your site
has a link that points to mine. While these links if applied
carefully still have value, they are not as important as they
once were. Link farms and links for the sake of linking have
diminished the value of reciprocal links. The
new player that is driving many search engine placements is
non-reciprocal links. The idea behind this concept is sound.
If a high quality website links to your site without a link in
return, you must have quality content or why would they have
linked to you in the first place. While this makes sense on
the surface it can penalize small businesses that don't have
an opportunity to acquire a link from high ranked sites like
Microsoft, Amazon or Slashdot. This doesn't
mean that small businesses have no chance of achieving a high
rank in the search engines. Local, regional and State sites
offer opportunities to be linked from high ranking sites.
Submitting your link to industry websites, contributing to
industry forums and asking suppliers to link to your site can
all have a major impact on your search engine placement. Links
from any popular site can help you build your rank.
Each of your websites has a link on Denison
Links which has earned a high ranking in the search engines
(#2 on Google when you search for Denison, IA). This helps all
of us build our rank in the search engines.

Crawford County Coupons Reaches New Highs
In the month of December, 2006 Crawford County Coupons has
recorded it's highest single month visitor total. As of the
29th, 3,256 unique visitors stopped by for area business
coupons. This can be attributed to local marketing efforts and
new search engine rankings that place the site in the top ten
on many search engines. A search for Iowa Coupons on Google
indexes the site at number 7, switch to Coupons Iowa and the
site ranks fourth. The same searches on Yahoo place the site
#11 and #1 respectively.
