What's New ?

Tried and True

A recent release of July search engine stats by Nielsen revealed a slight down turn in the number of searches (-1%) done over the past year. Why would the number of searches go down with the ever increasing use of the internet? While searching for an answer I came across several possible reasons and a few of the most compelling theories are outlined below.

Some think the economy played a role, assuming that with higher unemployment web users aren't purchasing as much and due to this they don't have as much of a need to search. This is an interesting possibility, however most people that I know spend more time on the internet not less when home from work.

Still others believe that web users have become savvier and have learned to make more specific searches, which in turn reduce the need for additional less specific queries. Those who believe in this theory may be on to something, specific search phrases have reduced the number of times that I search.

Social Media was named as one possible reason for the down turn in search numbers. With people going to a specific brands social media pages they can often jump directly to a company website, Blog or online store which would have a direct impact on search numbers.

Mobile devices may play a role here; many people do not like accessing search engines from mobile devices. They find it cumbersome and may stick with URL's they know.

Lets give some credit to the search engines, they may be returning better search results which could reduce the number of searches a person needs. Combine this with more specific search phrases and it may be no surprise that the number of searches has diminished.

No matter what the reason, it is important to remember that some of the easiest and most effective ways of promoting your website is through local advertising, product branding and self promotion. This type of promotion is tried and true.

Android and Other Tablets Coming Soon

Tablet PC's are popping up everywhere it seems. Since the introduction of the Apple iPad several companies have been scrambling to get in to the tablet computing market. Most seem to be basing there units on the Android 2.2 OS. The Android OS gained popularity with the Droid smartphone.

Some of the new tablets have been rushed to market and are already available. I suggest reading online reviews before purchasing.

Companies like HP (who recently bought Palm and the webOS) look to be entering the market along with Lenova, Velocity Micro and some think a Google Android Tablet is on the horizon. Some of these ship starting in September and have price tags in the $250-$350 range.

Whether they are powered by Android or WebOS it will be interesting to see how they compare to the iPad.

A Little To Much (Even for Me)

1. An invisible man marries an invisible woman. The kids were nothing to look at either.
2. Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before.
3. Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent.
4. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says 'Dam!'
5. A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, 'I'll serve you, but don't start anything.
6. Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted.
7. A dyslexic man walked into a bra.
8. I went to a seafood disco last week... and pulled a mussel.
9. Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: 'Does this taste funny to you?
10. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him... A super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.
