Search Engine Friendly Websites

How friendly is your site when it comes to the Search Engines? This is an important question since most people still find websites through the use of one of the major search engines. PPP Design optimizes your website and submits your site to around 40 of the major search engines. But we can't stop there. It is important to keep up with search engine changes.

Search engines are constantly refining the methods they use to rank websites. Each search engine uses their own methods so it can be difficult to determine what steps to take to maintain quality rankings.

Here are a few things you can do to keep your website in optimal shape for the next search engine spider that visits your site.

1. First and foremost make sure your content is current and relevant. If
your website is out of date, update it.

2. Review your meta tags. Right click and choose view  source to see the meta tags on your site. (In the header you will find a Title, a Description and  Keywords.) Start with the home page and  determine whether or not the three meta tags still  match with the content of the page. This is called
keyword relevance. Do you find the words in the  Title, Description and Keywords in the text of the page? (Not every word but many).  Check each page and let us know if things have changed substantially. This is very important on self administered sites.

3. Visit your links page and determine if the links are still appropriate, are you linked to quality non- competing businesses? Add additional links when possible.

4. This tip may or may not help you with search engine rankings, but it certainly can't hurt. Review each page and determine how many times you refer to things from your point of view instead of from the
perspective of your visitors. Look for terms like Me, Us, We etc. and think of ways to say the same thing using You, Your etc.  For example: Instead of  "We can help, Call us for more information." Try "You can benefit by calling for this informative  guide."  Sometimes the first person reference is unavoidable, but changing to a "You" reference  whenever possible will make your site more visitor friendly.

 Recent U.S. Postal Service Change

If you have an online store and use U.S.P.S. shipping rates you probably received a letter or email in the last few months describing major changes with U.S.P.S. online services that may effect your online shipping calculations.

Don't despair, it appears the changes will not effect the online shipping module. We will keep a close eye on this issue but at this time you can rest easy knowing that through rain, sleet and snow your shipping rates will be calculated.
