Lets
Get Personal
We
have all seen the "Crazy Bob" (insert appropriate
name) used car salesman stereotype. How effective is this
type of marketing? It can be very effective if the person
doing the advertising has the personality to pull it off,
otherwise it becomes a cliché and can actually damage
consumer trust.
The best way to present
yourself to potential customers is simply be yourself. Let
your personality and professionalism come through in your
marketing. If you are shy, don't pretend to be "Crazy
Bob", develop your marketing so it takes advantage of
your well liked personality traits. If you are shy but
devoted to customer service, try marketing that fits, like,
" I may be a wall flower but I am not shy about
providing excellent customer service". Of course, I
hope you come up with a phrase that is catchier than this
one but you get the point. You have stressed the fact that
you focus on customer service and your customer will get
exactly what they expected.
If you don't mind writing
notes you can take advantage of a great method used to build
customer relationships. When someone does a good deed, has a
major accomplishment or is in the news, send that person a
note thanking them for their good deed or recognizing their
accomplishment. A quick personal note with your Name,
Company Name, Web Site Address and Email address in small
print at the bottom of the note can have a huge impact when
building relationships. Be sure to personally sign the note
and send it in a timely fashion. The note can be as simple
as:
Dear Bob,
Thanks for your effort on my
behalf. I sincerely appreciate
everything you have done.
Thanks,

Who wouldn't like a note like
that? For extra impact send a note to their boss, if
warranted. Attach a news clipping if available, and let them
know you noticed. Most business results from building relationships, and how can you develop a relationship with someone when you never reveal who you really are?
