Social Software Social
Software, the name makes one think of Stalin, Hitler or
others of more modern notoriety. But don't worry,
social software is the catch-all phrase for simplified
tools. Tools that allow people or business groups to
collaborate online. Many
software programmers are working on ways to connect
traditionally unrelated hardware, software and web
applications. This is fueling a renaissance of "back
room" and "garage programming" that most
experts say is the birthplace of modern computer and
internet systems. Individual
programmers and small programming groups are working toward
a more "open" form of transferring and sharing
information. The envisioned outcome would be systems and
software that will share information seamlessly. Regardless
of original incompatibilities. Imagine
a business that has expanded by purchasing existing stores
in nearby communities. Software incompatibilities would
ordinarily create problems with immediate sharing of
information. The new, envisioned environment would allow
existing software to communicate with each other through
online interfaces or through connectivity objects built in
to the software. The
days of social software are a ways off, but it is something
to look forward to.

Private Link Exchange In
October we discussed how important it is to have other quality
sites linked to yours. Most search engines are placing more
weight on this than ever before. The more sites you have
linked to your website the higher you may be ranked. When
you visit a related, non-competing website take a moment and
look for the email or contact link. Click the link and send
them an email letting them know how much you like their site
and that you would like to exchange links with them. Provide
the link to your site so they can check your website and
determine whether they are interested in the reciprocal link.
Most business sites will reply promptly. If
they agree to the link exchange make certain to provide them
with a brief description of your site. One or two lines is
sufficient. Once the new link is added to your site be sure to
visit the link and verify the placement of a link to your
site. PPP Design wants to help you promote
your site through private link exchanges, during the months of
May and June we will add up to 5 links and descriptions to
your site for free. Don't overlook local sites, these can be
some of the most dynamic link connections. Visit Denison Links
to find out if a local business has a website.
Once the link exchange is agreed upon,
forward the links and descriptions to us. And we will place
the new link(s) on your site within 72 hours. |

Adjust Grammatical Style |
|
Microsoft Word 97/2000
To adjust the grammatical style used by the grammar checker
(particularly useful if you create different types of documents), select Options from the Tools menu, Spelling & Grammar, then choose the desired writing style from the drop down list. Options
such as casual, standard, formal, technical and custom are
available. You can click on the settings box beneath the
writing styles drop down selector to further tweak the way
word checks your document. Microsoft Word
2002 and XP have grammar checking facilities as well, the
adjustment should be similar for both programs. You
can also edit Microsoft Words dictionary from this same panel.
Many additional occupation specific dictionaries can be found
or purchased online.

HOW TO BATHE A CAT
(No cats were harmed during the making of
this newsletter)
1. Thoroughly clean toilet.
2. Lift both lids and add shampoo.
3. Find and soothe cat as you carry him to bathroom.
4. In one swift move, place cat in toilet, close both lids
and stand on top, so cat cannot escape.
5. The cat will self agitate and produce ample suds.
(Ignore ruckus from inside toilet, cat is enjoying this)
6. Flush toilet 3 or 4 times. This provides power rinse,
which is quite effective
7. Have someone open outside door, stand as far from toilet
as possible and quickly lift both lids.
8. Clean cat will rocket out of the toilet and outdoors,
where he will air dry.
Sincerely,
The Dog
